Home-grown award-winning tableware brand Luzerne celebrates its 75 years in the business with a flagship retail centre comprising a chic shop and a gallery with a hidden room.
Luzerne started in 1947 as Hiap Huat, a trading company importing homewares worldwide before buying a factory in Dehua, China – a county in Fujian province named the World Ceramics Capital by the World Crafts Council, where blanc de chine (white porcelain) was invented – in 1994 and starting a tableware manufacturing business.
Ten years later, the company decided to focus on its own brand. Thus Luzerne was born. Today, it is an award-winning tableware brand with a presence in 58 countries operated by the third generation of its founding Lek family.

Luzerne Building in Bendemeer
This year, celebrating its 75 years in the business, the company refurbished the Luzerne building in Bendemeer.
Nestled in its fifth floor is The Luzerne, Singapore, a chic space comprising a new office, a gallery and a store designed in collaboration with hospitality specialist EDG Design and local furniture brand Commune.
Visitors are received into The Lounge, an area decked like a plush living room with its own bar finished with blue mosaic tiles.
This is where guests meet their Luzerne consultants and wait for their purchase to be packed while sipping drinks. It also doubles as a break room for Luzerne staff, whose global corporate office – The Residence – is just next to the bar.

At the other end of the lounge is The Shop, the brand’s first-ever retail outlet.
“Luzerne is well-known in HORECA – hotels, restaurants, cafes – industry but not so much in retail. We hope with this shop, we will grow our business to a new level in Singapore,” shares COO Elaine Lek.
Connected to The Shop via a sizeable pivoting door is The Gallery, an experience centre designed for HORECA clients, which houses over 3,000 products from 40 global collections.
At the centre of The Gallery is a live kitchen with three long communal tables displaying various table settings and a mini kiln in the back room.
This area is available as an event space with select industry partners and friends. Arranged around it are display racks and Commune cabinets made with blond wood and black metal frame highlighting the various Luzerne products.
EDG Design playfully articulated the details of the space using Luzerne products, like plates as door handles and stacked bowls as pendant lights.

An unassuming door marked as The Den opens up to what appears to be a room filled with floor-to-ceiling racks.
One of these swings open to reveal a plush lounge decked with curvy furniture and a crystal chandelier whose walls are lined with Luzerne’s most high-profile collaborations, like Vera Wang’s Wedgwood collection and pieces for the likes of Sultan of Johor and fine dining restaurant Hakkasan to Singapore Airlines and Starbucks. “These are just some we can disclose, for now,” Elaine quips.
Fun fact: Luzerne’s tablewares have four-digit serial numbers on their back that indicate their “birth” date.
The Luzerne, Singapore is located at 70 Bendemeer Road #05-01.
