Smart-home automations are changing the way we live, providing added convenience to the comfort of our homes. You may have heard of sound- or motion-activated devices, which switch your lights and air conditioners on, or even draw your blinds and curtains, but have you seen a smart refrigerator that is not just Wi-Fi-enabled, but also allows you to see the contents of your fridge without opening the door?
South Korean electronics company LG recently launched the 601-litre Instaview door-in-door refrigerator. It looks just like a regular fridge with a screen, but knock twice on the sleek mirrored glass panel and you will be in for a surprise! When the feature is activated, you’ll see inside the easy access compartments thanks to the illuminated screen.
More than just convenient, this is also an eco-friendly feature as cold air is not lost, which helps to keep food fresher for a longer period of time as temperature fluctuation is reduced. This also helps if you find yourself opening and closing the fridge door several times in a day.
In addition, the inverter linear compressor at the core of the appliance provides up to 32 per cent of energy savings, too. A Hygiene Fresh five-step air filter helps remove up to 99.9 per cent of bacteria and odours, so you can be assured that food stays fresh, and the interior of your fridge does not smell. This aids in preventing cross contamination of odours between raw and fresh food or fruits.
LG created the SmartThinQ application to enable busy homeowners to control their refrigerator remotely. Through the app, you can set the temperature, control the Hygiene Fresh function and many other features.
In the freezer compartment, there’s even a Space Plus ice system — a slim door-mounted icemaker — that offers more storage space for other frozen food.
With these high-tech and user-friendly features, the LG Instaview door-in-door refrigerator sets a new standard and revolutionises the way we live.
The LG Instaview door-in-door refrigerator retails for $4,999. To find out more about this, and other appliances including the LG Styler – a unique and compact steam clothing management system – visit www.lg.com/sg.
