Chef Wu Si Han’s love for food was instilled in him from a very young age. Growing up in a Peranakan- Hokkien household meant that he was exposed to the Nonya cooking and traditional Hokkien dishes.
Chef-Owner, Wu Si Han
Today the 31-year-old is chef-owner Supply and Demand, a modern Italian trattoria, pizzeria and rooftop bar at Esplanade. He’s also Gaggenau’s first Singaporean culinary partner and spokesperson.
His new home kitchen design is well-equipped with Gaggenau appliances; to him it’s like having a professional kitchen in the comfort of his personal space.
Home kitchen fitted with Gaggenau appliances
Si Han wanted a modern Scandinavian theme that evokes minimalism and clean lines – especially when paired with the Gaggenau 200 Series Anthracite appliances. “The layout of the kitchen is also highly functional for me as a chef and my mum who cooks very often at home,” he says.
Kitchen Countertop: Compact Wood
For the countertop and backsplash, he chose EDL compact’s wood collection, because this modern material is resistant to heat, moisture, scratches and stains.
“This is important to me and my Hokkien-Peranakan family as we cook a lot of Nonya dishes at home where turmeric, which stains easily, is quite often used. One more reason for using EDL compact was the matching wood laminate which allows overhead cabinets a seamless integration with the backsplash panels. This resulted in a more spacious and uncluttered appearance,” he says.
Hafary Wall Tiles
He adds, “For the floor tiles, I went for the Bulgaria Pearl from Hafary which is the lightest grey stone-effect shade I could find. I liked it so much that we used it for the entire house, to create a more spacious and homogenous feel when walking to different parts of the house. I even use them as kitchen wall tiles.”
Si Han says that for the kitchen design, he selected natural materials like wood and colours that are earthy, neutral and grey, while avoiding unnecessary lines or handles in the carpentry as he wanted the overall design to be “beautifully timeless”.
Gaggenau CV282 Induction Cooktop
A must-have in the kitchen for chef Wu is the Gaggenau CV282 induction with integrated ventilation. He believes it is a total game changer compared to traditional cooktops.
“Maintaining a cooktop have never been easier, because after a heavy cooking session, I just pop the ventilator’s steel filter in the dishwasher and wipe the cooktop surface with Gaggenau’s recommended cleaning solutions and it’s good as new. Additional carbon filters help to trap smells too. I would highly recommend this to anyone and even let them try it,” he shares.
