What do you get when two of Italy’s biggest names come together to create an utterly eye-catching collection for the home?
The answer: A collection so intense and filled with style that every appliance deserves pride of place in your kitchen!
A brief background on Smeg for the uninitiated: Many may know home appliance brand Smeg for its one-of-a-kind, vintage-inspired refrigerators, which have been on the market since the 1990s. Design-savvy homeowners have even designated this product as one of the must-buys for their home. More recently, Smeg also introduced home appliances such as mixers, blenders, toasters and pasta makers. These appliances in the kitchen are designed to make a statement, with brightly coloured or pastel-hued options.
Expanding the collection further, Smeg recently collaborated with fashion design brand Dolce&Gabbana. The latter is known for its bold, vibrant designs and the collaboration sees Smeg’s appliances – like the kettle, toaster, juicer – dressed in Sicilian folk art-inspired paintings.
A truly “Made in Italy” project, this collaboration aims to combine an emphasis on traditional Sicilian craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology. With paintings of gold lemons, pears and red cherries, as well as floral and fauna, the artworks on the appliances are inspired by typical Sicilian decorations framed in triangular motifs called crocchi.
Other design inspirations include the coasts, landscapes and architecture of Southern Italy, like the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux in the Valley of Temples.
This collaboration between Smeg and Dolce&Gabbana also symbolises the marriage between high fashion and design for the home. “This collection of small domestic appliances comprises pieces made on an industrial scale, through a process of reproduction of handpainted prototypes created by master Sicilian artists and craftsmen. The history, culture, cuisine and beauty of the Sicilian landscape are captured in these objects in an authentic and unforgettable way, as if the Italian spirit were distilled into tangible and timeless forms,” shares the brands.
If you are a fan of the two brands, this collection is the perfect opportunity for you to easily welcome art, style and function into your kitchen space all at once.
And, at last, the collection has reached our shores! The Smeg X Dolce&Gabbana home appliances collection will be launched in Singapore, from Sept 14 to 23.
