Not long ago, we mentioned that local furnishing and design label Scene Shang was closing the doors of its iconic Beach road flagship. Surprisingly, the team opened up about its new home located close to Aljunied and Macpherson, on the top level of an industrial building at 42 MacTaggart road.
I decided to drop in for a quick look on the day of its unofficial opening, just to beat the crowd and see what the new loft is like.
When my driver dropped me off at the ground floor of the building, I thought he had taken me to the wrong location. The building is set in the heart of a sprawling industrial estate, surrounded by steel factories and warehouses. However, a check on the directory beside the quaint-sized lift showed I was at the right place.
You’ll find Scene Shang occupying the only storefront on the top floor of the building. When the lift doors open, you are greeted by the sight of a simply-adorned store facade with Scene Shang’s plaque on the wall. Opening hours are 11am-8pm daily, and there are limited parking lots on-site, so go early if you want to avoid having to park further away from the building.

There is a beautiful wooden console at the entrance, graced by a captivating artwork by Arthur P.Y Ting. The lamp and the wicker tray on the console are also designed by Scene Shang. For those who are new to the brand, the lamp has come to be one of the brand’s bestselling staples. I know, because I’ve got several at home.

The other side of the entrance foyer is filled with a small table, screen and one of Scene Shang’s Shang cabinets system.

The Scene Shang loft is definitely much bigger than its previous Beach road flagship! There’s plenty of space to move around, and discover all the interesting finds spread out all over the loft.

Everything is laid out neatly, and there’s a very friendly atmosphere in the loft. I love that the large windows allow for plenty of light to filter into the space. It was a good thing that I visited around evening time, because I managed to catch the beautiful golden rays of the setting sun streaming into the different settings.

Aside from the showroom, the loft is also home to Scene Shang’s team of designers. Their office is enclosed behind glass-panels and allow visitors a peep into the busy workings of the Scene Shang crew.

One of the first room settings you’ll find next to the office area is this living room layout decked with the Maverick sofas. The simple lines give it a retro-chic kinda feel.

Here’s another living room setting. Again, the way the light shines through into the showroom is lovely, and reminds me of my afternoons as a young boy coming home from school and just lounging on the sofa to watch cartoons.

There’s a DIY area, where you can browse through the leather and fabric swatches available while choosing your furniture.

There’s also a bedroom setting, which is easy to replicate for homeowners who want a casual but cosy atmosphere. I like the idea of having a chinese bench at the foot of the bed instead of the usual tufted benches.

If you have a balcony or verandah, you can dress it up with this wicker armchair. The pretty pink and blue ombre on the fabric covering is trending at the moment.

The bar cabinet paired with a vintage-style armchair is quite the eye-catcher.

Of course, the Scene Shang lamps are also available at the showroom in various base finishes.

One thing that caught my eye was this hanging pendant lamp with wicker shade. The rustic nature of the materials contrasts nicely with the art-deco look of the silhouette.

Oriental vases in bright red for the coming CNY decor perhaps?
![sceneshang-new-16](https://sonadecor.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/sceneshang-new-16.jpg)
There’s plenty to browse through even if you are not shopping for furniture.

These candy-coloured tableware helps to liven up the look of a room without becoming too overwhelming.

The new loft also has a cute chill-out area. In the past Scene Shang always had great gatherings for guests and the media during special occasions like the Mid-Autumn festival or CNY, hopefully we’ll get to gather again soon in the year ahead! You can find out more about pricing and the names of the pieces in my pictures from Scene Shang’s website here.
