In 2015, creative director Alessandro Michele introduced a romantic and maximalist style for the fashion house of Gucci, which was a welcome change from the slinky, sensual designs of his predecessor. The success of the new direction prompted the label to channel the look into its other offerings as well, including Gucci’s first home-decor collection launched this year.

Alessandro’s signature use of frills, tassels and rich hues are encapsulated in these velvet Renaissance-esque cushions – they are the highlight of this collection, as well as a reflection of the new Gucci.

This oddball combination of motifs, colours and patterns, were chosen to liberate homeowners from decorating rules; they can use these pieces wherever and however they want to.

Each pillow’s hand-embroidered motif, from Angry Cat to the Kingsnake, took almost 10 hours to complete. We first got a sneak peek of these cushions during Gucci’s Resort 2017 show in Westminster Abbey, London, where they were gifted to guests who promptly Instagrammed it. What do you think of these pillows?
