Mark it down on your calendar now, for the world’s most popular pop artist is coming to town. Well, one of his mega-art installations at least.
KAWS, an art brand created by American artist Brian Donnelly, has been making waves with its art displays and figurines since its inception on the streets of New York in the early nineties. Today, the limited edition artworks and exclusive collaborations with other hip brands have made KAWS one of the most iconic characters around.
Come November, Singaporeans will be able to get up close and personal with the KAWS Companion. This large-sized 42m-long artwork depicting the signature KAWS character with crossed out eyes hugging a smaller version of itself, will be inflated at The Float @ Marina Bay (20 Raffles Avenue) from 13 to 21 November.
Super cute and super quirky at the same time, the KAWS Companion features the odd-looking KAWS fellow in a motherly embrace with its smaller version.
This and other versions of Companion have been displayed in other major cities, like London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong and Seoul.
This 42-metre long installation is actually an inflatable sculpture, making it easy to transport from country to country. Part of the appeal of the part-human and part-mouse figure stems from its resemblance to a certain famous mouse. No prizes for guessing which mouse it is.
Aside from gawking at the giant Companion, visitors will also get a chance to purchase the limited edition KAWS figurine KAWS: HOLIDAY SINGAPORE edition with the country name on the cover.
The KAWS: HOLIDAY SINGAPORE 10.5 inch figurine will be available on the DDT store from 13 November at 11am. It is priced at 285USD, and while stocks last.
