3-Bedroom Condominium
The owners of this 1,260 sq ft (117 sqm), three-bedroom condominium apartment really appreciated the practicality of hidden storage. So they got their interior designer, Mei Teh of Story of Us, to design built-in furniture to maximise the apartment’s floor area.
Renovation Cost: $70,000
The renovation set them back some $70,000, but it’s been worth it – one year after moving in and they still have ample storage space.
The wall-mounted shoe cabinet by the main door has a design that resembles stacked boxes, with frames in bold colours.
TV Feature Wall with Storage
On the wall behind the TV set, a rectilinear design that appears to be just on the surface, reveals outlines of cabinet doors with storage spaces behind.
This design continues on to the door of the master bedroom, camouflaging it completely.

Dining Room Carpentry
On the opposite side of the dining area is open shelving designed with compartments in varying widths. Finished in a charcoal woodgrain laminate, it contrasts with the lacquered raw plywood doors next to it, which also conceal storage items behind.

Bay Window Storage
Mei also made the most out of the bay windows in the bedrooms. Atop the one in the master bedroom, she built a desk with slim drawers and a “drop-down” storage compartment.

Walk-In Wardrobe
Distinctive details jazz up the laminate-finished wardrobe doors in the master bedroom – the ones in the walk-in wardrobe are not flat but slanted.

4-Room HDB, Redhill
Interior designer Riston Foo of Whiz Concepts got a pretty interesting brief from this client of his. The owner of a four-room HDB in Redhill wanted to do away with the kitchen – since he didn’t cook, room to host friends and his Bible study group, and plenty of storage space for his books and vintage memorabilia.
Renovation Cost: $80,000
For $80,000, Riston reconfigured the flat’s layout and furnished the home according to the owner’s needs. For instance, this narrow space was formerly the kitchen, and has been reconfigured to fit a long dining table perfect for a group of more than 10 people.

Removed Kitchen Completely
In place of the former kitchen, the owner was made a minimalist pantry area where he can make himself an aromatic cuppa, or “stow” it away by pulling the sliding doors to enclose the space.

Room for Bible Group
Wanting a space to host his weekly Bible group of 15, this new designated area is able to comfortably seat all of them so they can concentrate on productive discussion.

Open Shelves
The polycarbonate backing of the open shelving bring light into the master bedroom behind. The shelves also provide for all of Edwin’s storage needs, in particular his books and collection of vintage radios and cameras.

Master Bedroom
An easy-to-maintain material like carpeting clads the headboard in the master bedroom.
