When the owners of this 900 sq ft (83 sqm) two-bedroom apartment got the keys to their two-bedroom apartment at One North Residences, their first thought was that it looked like a “hospital” with its stark white walls and flooring.
It’s no wonder the couple wanted to renovate their home to reflect an upmarket resort-hotel vibe instead.
After approaching various interior designers, they finally found a match in interior designer Stephen Goh at Metaphor, who came up with a customised proposal for the apartment’s design.
From “hospital” to home
Stephen began by dramatically transforming the stark, clinical space.
The existing white walls of the home are clad entirely in a variety of materials: grey-textured wallpaper, wooden laminate panels, black granite, slate and mirrors.

Ambient lighting
Lighting tubes are integrated in the built-in cabinets above the TV console for ambient mood illumination.
Tube lights
Tube-shaped lights mounted on the feature wall match the lighting above the TV console opposite.
Bay window
Cushions turn the bay window in the living room into a comfortable perch.
Wood laminate kitchen
To maintain design unity with the rest of the home, the original built-in kitchen cabinets are clad in wood laminate.
Kitchen storage space
Storage cabinets are built against the far wall of the kitchen area.
Raised platform walkway
The doors to the guest bathroom and bedrooms were in plain view from the living room. It was a jarring sight to the laid-back vibe of the dining area.
Stephen suggested to shift the bedroom doors to the side and have a raised walkway leading to the rooms.
Concealed Doors
The end result is an artful and understated segue to the bedrooms.
A mirrored door now hides the entrance to the guest bathroom. The owner jokes that it’s so well-designed, people have problems finding it!
Clean bedroom
Clean lines dominate in the master bedroom, with no sign of clutter as ample storage units feature under the bay windows and in the space where the original door stood.
Mirrored cabinets
These built-in cabinets in the master bedroom are clad in mirrors to reflect light from the windows and lighting feature wall.
