Who said that young people don’t appreciate tradition? The owners of this 1,200 sq ft (111 sqm) home in Lower Delta Road, a couple in their then 30s, engaged Matthew Lai of Studio XMSL to work a “modern Chinese” theme to their home.
In the living room, the lattice-like, black-finished steel bi-fold doors that front the balcony were customised, as was the open steel-and-black glass TV console – described by Matthew as “a modern interpretation of the traditional Chinese standing shelves”.
Full Height Display Shelves
To house the couple’s treasured artefacts, Matthew constructed a full-length built-in shelving and storage feature that runs from the living room to the dining area.
The old timber floors were sanded down and stained a dark black-brown colour for an instant update.
