It’s only likely that a fashion designer’s home will be as fabulous as their sartorial tastes, and this 2,700 sq ft resort-style landed corner terrace home in Novena is a reflection of fashion designer Eeling’s style.
Together with her husband Eric, a doctor, the couple’s brief to interior stylist and designer Priscilla Tan of Styledbypt was for a dreamy residence that emanates perpetual holiday vibes.
Says Priscilla, “The homeowners’ brief was to create an Airbnb- and Instagram-worthy home. They wanted a home that feels like they are always on a holiday. Eeling (above) is a fashion designer and I love her taste in colours and prints. We sat down to discuss what each space should feel like and who will be using the spaces before looking at the floor plan and tweaking it.”

The three-storey house has two living rooms, four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
An overall vibe of black and white colonial-meets-modern Hamptons pervades the home, with materials and elements like rattan and cane, bamboo, wood and brass taking centre place.

The dining area shares space with an open kitchen. An island doubles as a breakfast bar as well as for food prep and storage. 3m-tall cabinets were designed to create extra storage and make up for the lack of floor space. “The custom kitchen hood is another highlight and dream of my client, and the perfect pairing for her range cooker,” shares Priscilla.
Presiding over the dining and kitchen area is a stunning skylight that lights up the space, turning it into the heart of the home.

In the main living room, the classic black and white colour scheme is jazzed up with rattan and bamboo furniture pieces. Tactile elements like rugs and throw cushions, and Eeling’s existing sofa as well as art pieces add layers of colour and texture.

One’s eye is drawn to the entryway, which sports a striking lacquered black bamboo mirror, photo frames as well as second-hand palm tree lamps from Hock Siong and Co.

The colour palette swings to lighter, nature-inspired hues in the second living room, a more casual spot in the backyard. Beside it is the garden as well as an outdoor kitchen.

A wicker swing sofa, framed artworks of seashells and corals, and indoor palms transport one to a breezy coastal setting.

Eric’s love for cooking and especially barbeques inspired the outdoor kitchen. Concerned about the fumes that would otherwise permeate the living areas from the indoor kitchen, they came up with the idea of having an outdoor cooking area. It marries both function and style too; design details like a bold patterned tile underfoot, cement concrete counters, outdoor laminates and half-mood handles were thoughtfully included.

Walls covered in a toile wallpaper-esque Italian tile instantly grab attention in the powder room. As the tiles were pricey, cost-saving strategies were put in place: They decided on a half-wall look, and a mirror on the opposite end of the bathroom reflects the tiles.
The ceiling is painted black for a cosy ambience, and also draws attention to the unique tiles. An upcycled vanity top adds character to the space and makes for a conversation piece when guests visit.

Quirky accents like this wall hook bring personality to the powder room.

Pretty pastel hues and delicate patterns paired with wood and rattan elements lend to a light airy aesthetic in their daughter’s bedroom.

A swing chair with throw cushions makes for a cosy reading nook, and ties in with the laid-back atmosphere of the home, too.

In her bathroom, pink scalloped tiles from An Huat and floral tiles dole out a lighthearted charm. With limited stock from the supplier, Priscilla was only able to cover half the wall with the scalloped tiles, but the result is a pretty contrast against the white paint.
It also makes the small bathroom look wider and brighter. An arched niche in the shower was custom built to add more interest to the shower stall.

Bright, quirky accessories and colours enliven the boys’ bedroom.

The boys’ bathroom – adjoined to both their bedroom and the guest room – is an extension of the original. Two Ikea bathroom cabinets were redesigned to create a long vanity that houses two sinks, making it convenient for the boys to prep for school in the mornings with their own wash area.
Herringbone tiles – a favourite of the homeowners – in different sizes and colours create an interesting visual play here.

The adjoining guest room also doubles as the boys’ study area.

One of the biggest decor changes was made at the topmost floor of the house, with the area horizontally and vertically extended to accommodate a living room, a bedroom, a balcony, a gym, walk-in wardrobe and a huge bathroom.
Neutral tones form the base of the master bedroom decor, played up with subtle touches of colour and nature-inspired accents for a soothing and welcoming feel.
A lounge area housed in the bedroom is both Eeling’s home office as well as a cosy spot for her family to gather and chill near bedtime.
![20200312-188-837x1024-1](https://sonadecor.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/20200312-188-837x1024-1.jpg)
Initially a family room, the bathroom has a double shower area as well as a 3m-long vanity with his and her wash basins.
A shell chandelier dresses up the high vaulted ceiling, and Priscilla used a combination of four different glossy and matte tile designs to create subtle texture and contrast.
![20200312-218-821x1024-1](https://sonadecor.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/20200312-218-821x1024-1.jpg)
The tiles, beautiful mirrors as well as chic bathroom fittings allude to a Bali villa-style bathroom that have become the owners’ daily retreat.
![20200312-220-836x1024-1](https://sonadecor.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/20200312-220-836x1024-1.jpg)
The open concept walk-in wardrobe is a visual treat with its walls clad in a gorgeous botanical watercolour wallpaper. The dreamy space isn’t just for the owners’ to get dressed – it creates a stunning backdrop for outfit photo ops as well.
Priscilla’s storage tip: “When it comes to storing clothes and shoes, using rattan materials as door finishes allows for ventilation, and it adds a gorgeous colour and detail to an otherwise boring plain surface.”

The renovation was completed in December 2019.
