Like Singapore, Jakarta is hot most months of the year.
When this homeowner purchased a plot of land in the gated community of Bumi Serpong Damai in the region of Tangerang, Jarkata Indonesia, he wanted to ensure that there would be ample natural ventilation throughout, and an indoor slide in the house for his young child.
What the architecture and interior design team at Aboday did was to erect a two-storey house with an open-plan concept with an open staircase leading to the three bedrooms upstairs.

In addition to that, they also made use of vertical gardens along the façade of the home to provide additional shade.

The placement of water features around the building also helps to keep the interiors cool during the day.

One of the things the design team also did was to include a spiral concrete slide protruding out by the side facade of the landed house for the family’s (then) five-year old son.

The slide leads its passengers from the second floor bedrooms directly to the ground floor’s open dining area, where the family like to gather in the evenings.
Talk about being on time for dinner time!

Of course, there is also a normal staircase by the living room for the adults’ use.

Exposed concrete was used throughout the industrial and brutalist-inspired home, along with other natural finishes to give the home a rugged and edgy look.

Seems like the five-year-old son is climbing up the normal staircase for another round of fun down the concrete slide.

Full-length glass panels flush one side of the house, allowing natural light and the outside environment to fill and enliven the home during the day.

Instead of whitewashing their ceilings, the designers chose to have raw concrete ceiling – adding another layer of unique texture and cohesion to the space.

The glass parapet that runs through the second floor’s bedroom corridors are embellished with stark black, pipe-like rails that are both functional for safety and aesthetically consistent with the home’s industrial design.

Tall ceilings create visual variety in this bedroom corner nook of the house where the entrance of the slide is located.

Barefoot comfort and fun. The five-year-old son found his way into the slide once again.

A quiet sanctuary in the house for some air, breathing space, art, and thinking.

The owners’ art collection are quietly interspersed throughout the house – you wouldn’t even notice them.

The living room’s glass panels open up into a lush front yard and private garden where the family’s child can play safely within sight.
