When it came to the design of their abode, the homeowners of this Good Class Bungalow off Holland Road — a couple in their 50’s and 60’s — decided on a tabula rasa approach when they bought the property.
Why? Partly because the existing house was old, but more importantly, they had a clear vision as to what kind of home they wanted to build.
Sprawling Greenery
The architect initially proposed interconnected pavilions spread out over the site, but the homeowners preferred to have the house as one consolidated mass tucked to one side of the plot, freeing up a sprawling expanse of green space.

Designed to Entertain
The homeowners enjoy hosting, and regularly organise dinner gatherings with their loved ones. In the evening, the candlelit dining table is accompanied by the glow of garden lamps surrounding the property.
The dining room opens out to a balcony overlooking the pool, while full-height sliding glass doors allow the flexibility of separating the dining from the adjacent living area.
One side of the dining room is a mirror wall, which symbolises abundance.

Scissor Staircase
The ubiquitous scissor staircase is given a twist with a curved form, making a sculptural statement in the living area.

Art Imitates Life
A painting displayed along the staircase depicts people climbing up and down a rock formation, mimicking reality.

Playful Pups
A collection of predominantly black-and-white dog sculptures is randomly displayed along the second storey hallway to create a playful scene, while a painting of dogs on the wall adds a splash of colour.

Master Bathroom
The master bathroom’s white palette accentuates its vast proportions and light-filled interior, complete with vanities on either side.
A semi-sunken bath for two is the perfect place to luxuriate, while soaking in the elevated view of the surrounding’s lush landscape.

Master Bedroom
The cavernous master suite includes two adjoining walk-in wardrobes and a study, separated by a series of sliding doors.
The wife loves shopping, and her walk-in wardrobe is where she can immerse herself in her collection of fashion accoutrements.

Walk-In Wardrobe
The wood tones of the walk-in wardrobe gives the space a warm and cosy feel.

Theatre Room
There’s also a home theatre-cum-karaoke room. The dark-coloured wallcovering, choice of soft furnishings, and mood lighting were selected to resemble the interior of a club.
