A pool is probably one of the most coveted things to have at home, but Brazilian architect Fernanda Marques took things a step further by making the pool the focal point of the home in this 477sqm duplex apartment in São Paulo.
Home to a couple who are avid art collectors, the apartment features an airy, minimalist aesthetic that contrasts contemporary lines with the abundance of nature. The lush foliage and pool — visible through soaring full-height windows — form the perfect backdrop against which the sleek design, iconic furniture, and sculptures stand out.
The minimalist aesthetic of the living room forms the canvas for the couple’s art collection. Full-height glass windows and a soaring ceiling allow natural light to pour into the space, creating an expansiveness reminiscent of an art gallery.

Those in the living room and swimming pool are able to get a view of each other, thanks to the thick glass walls.

The sleek, contemporary lines of the switchback staircase leading to the pool — which almost resembles a digital rendering in its minimalism — contrasts with the abundance of lush foliage and the natural wood bench outside.

Having the pool front and centre means that the view can be enjoyed from various vantage points around the house. Here, the pool view and lush greenery form a serene backdrop for this spa-like bathroom.
