Though they have a fondness for Chinese and Peranakan motifs, and an art collection of their own, the homeowners of this 2,585 sq ft (240 sqm) penthouse apartment wanted an understated look that did not feel too maximalist or cluttered.
With this in mind, Design Intervention created a contemporary Chinoiserie family home that was practical and spacious for the multigenerational family.
Dining Room
The existing wooden floors help bring the rich hues of the furniture and accessories together.
A plush curved sofa, clad in blue velvet, is the highlight of the living room, while spiky brass chandeliers added a bold, contemporary touch to the Oriental-style painting and cabinets in the dining area.

Chinoiserie Bathroom
This style extends to the powder room where a blue-and bronze Sakura blossom wallpaper, and mirrored cabinetry, were paired for a luxurious ambience.
“We wanted an elegant surprise effect upon entering, with the idea to create a soft-toned jewellery box,” shares the Design Intervention team.

Master Bedroom
In the master bedroom, softer hues were applied.
Olive brown and cream created an elegant backdrop for the pops of purple and red from the soft furnishing, as well as floor-to- ceiling Chinese-inspired wallpaper, which frames the bed nicely.

As the homeowners had requested for a complete turnkey service, walking into this sophisticated yet personalised home must have been a pleasant surprise!
