Last year, Space Furniture unveiled a showcase curated by Italian furniture brand Living Divani called The Architects Apartment that presents its extensive furniture offerings in aspirational settings. Founded in 1969, the brand has grown from a humble family business into an award-winning global name.

Creatively directed by design maestro Piero Lissoni since 1988, Living Divani is most proud of its timeless designs that exude a quiet elegance. Its products can be harmoniously mixed and matched regardless of when individual pieces were produced. It also boasts a large number of products designed by Singaporean designers. We ask CEO and second generation owner Carola Bestetti to share more.
HOW HAS DIVANI EVOLVED?
Over the years, our company has garnered recognition through a design approach based on harmony and delicacy as a simplification of forms. This has yielded versatile items that are entirely in tune with the new normal world. We always start a design with research on the daily use of the object to create a harmonious life.

We favour modular shapes and lines, soothing colours, reduced volumes, material quality and craftsmanship. And we believe in the idea of a timeless design. That’s why the pieces in our collection blend together perfectly regardless of when they were produced and the diverse talents who created them.
Living Divani’s personality can be summed up as quiet elegance. Our goal is to create a high-quality living environment, open to customisation and close to each customer’s desires.

TELL US ABOUT THE ARCHITECTS APARTMENT.
Designed as an ever-evolving space, it celebrates the works or architects and designers and showcases iconic pieces alongside new products while blending design and art to recreate an apartment displaying the breadth of the Living Divani universe.

HOW IS THE FURNITURE DESIGN INDUSTRY EVOLVING IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD?
The objective of furniture design no longer focuses on mass production. Instead, it is pushing the creation process through dialogues among key production partners to produce products that authentically respond, reflect and even anticipate consumers’ needs.

HAVE YOU NOTICED CHANGES IN CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR?
More and more consumer choices will be driven by the desire for real values and the brand’s human side – for example, who is behind the brand and creating the products. Now, consumers pay more attention to product stories and origins. They care to make a positive impact through their choices and opt for sustainable products.

They are even curious about how things are made and look for traceability. They also wish for unique creations that embody their personalities or can be customised to reflect them. Architects Apartment at Space Furniture aims to showcase what Living Divani can offer for their homes, from indoor and outdoor furniture to accessories and bespoke pieces designed by international designers and architects.

HOW HAS COLLABORATING WITH INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS ENHANCED LIVING DIVANI’S OFFERINGS?
This has increased the diversity of our offerings and opened them up to new tastes while keeping up with the constantly changing market. Many of these international collaborations were with Singaporeans, like Nathan Yong (Off Cut, Stack Table, Bolle side table), Lanzavecchia+Wai (Pebble and Pebble Low Table) and Studio Juju (Rabbit and Tortoise Collection). These products feature Living Divani’s signature delicate forms that complement the linearity and proportion favoured by the Singapore market. That’s also why Asia is a key market for us.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE ASIAN DESIGNERS WHO ASPIRE TO COLLABORATE WITH LIVING DIVANI?
Be curious and determined! Carefully study our catalogue and propose something we’ve been missing; something that would fit harmoniously into our collections. Individual accessories are ideal to start with but we love the idea of establishing long-term collaborations to produce collections that can grow year after year.
