Single lady in her early 30s
The client, a successful single professional woman in her early 30s, works as an executive in her multi- generational family-owned business. She entrusted the renovation of this plum piece of real estate to Rhianna Jones of La Jolla-based Tidal Interiors, who could see the fantastic potential of the space.
“We instantly connected with the client and knew it was a perfect fit for us. We both had the like- minded goal to elevate the space to create a sophisticated yet cosy abode,” recalls Rhianna.

Inspired by The Surf Club, Four Seasons Florida
During the client’s frequent work obligations on the East Coast, she would stay at The Surf Club at the Four Seasons in Florida, so it was unsurprising that she wanted her home to reflect the vibe and ambience of the hotel.
“Our design goal was to replicate the relaxed yet chic surroundings interpreted for a southern California coastal home,” states Rhianna.

Complete Revamp of the House
The project scope included a complete revamp of all flooring, the kitchen, the entry, all ceilings and walls, two bathrooms, and three bedrooms.
Rhianna’s goal was to create a balance between an old world and a modern design aesthetic. To this end, she incorporated different textures and finishes into the space to create dimension and warmth.
In addition, aged brass and matte black were used throughout the home to create a cohesive yet modern look.

Kitchen & Bar
The kitchen and bar were designed to be focal points as the client’s passion is cooking and entertaining for her large extended family, who all live nearby and frequently visit for meals. The designer incorporated ample appliances and guest seating to accommodate this.
Under counter space was utilised to fit three ovens, freezer drawers, a second dishwasher for bar glassware, and hidden bottle storage.
A custom-fabricated island countertop waterfalls down onto the dining table to gain as much dining seating as possible.
“This area, in particular, turned out better than we imagined. All of the tiny details and handpicked marble slabs melded perfectly. It is the ultimate entertaining and family gathering place of the home,” says Rhianna.

All Custom Furniture
To finesse a home so specifically designed to suit the client’s tastes and requirements, custom furniture and window finishings were the only way to go. Custom floor-to-ceiling draperies that wrapped all the walls were added, which Jones recalls took some time to find the perfect fabric.
A custom-fabricated daybed anchors the living room, upholstered in a perennial velvet to prevent fading from constant sun exposure.
“This piece offers the ultimate lounging comfort without blocking the exterior views when not in use,” enthuses Rhianna. Gray accent chairs were also custom designed, and the remainder of the furniture and lighting was sourced from local vendors.

Environmentally-Conscious Mindset
This was a deliberate decision by the designer to reduce fuel use and unnecessary harmful packaging materials. An environmentally conscious mindset, after all, is also a large part of the Sothern California lifestyle. Another green initiative was installing a fully filtered water system to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles.
The effortlessness of the space is reflected in the joy Rhianna had in designing the home and putting it together.
“Truthfully, we love the entire space so much and feel it truly embodied the client’s vision of creating a cosy yet sophisticated home suited for the southern California lifestyle,” muses Rhianna.
This is echoed by the client’s pleasure in the results: “The owner was overjoyed with the transformation. As with everyone, we all now spend more time at home working and leisure, so she was thrilled to have fully functioning designated spaces that matched her personal aesthetic and lifestyle.”
