Back in its sixth instalment, this year’s Light to Night Festival features innovative audiovisual experiences around the theme, “New Ways of Seeing, Thinking and Being”. Happening from Jan 14 to Feb 3, the festival invites audiences to engage with fresh perspectives about pandemic-inspired living.
Here are seven activities you don’t want to miss:
Art Skins on Monuments: Refractioned
From 7.30pm, this year’s signature light projection show brings a myriad of colours to the National Gallery Singapore. This delightful 7-minute light show is inspired by HDB facades and iconic local architecture photographed during the circuit breaker period in 2020. Accompanied by locally-produced music, this programme will have you immersed from start to end.
Art Skins on Monuments: Elusive Études
Over at the Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall, students from Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Design & Media bring to life an animated struggle of performing artists as they find a new balance in our constantly changing reality. A beautiful visual treat, this projection highlights moments of self-discovery, leading to hidden synchronicities, harmonies and choreographies.
KOLEKTIF Takeover
Decked out in colourful tables, bean bags and fairy lights, The Gallery’s space has been transformed into a restful pitstop amidst the bustle of the Civic District. As part of an experimental programme, KOLEKTIF Takeover invites youths to reflect on their state of mind through interactive workshops that explore contemporary questions, from learning the art of letting go to finding brief getaways from life’s everyday stressors.
Fragment of a Shoreline
Sink your toes into this expansive shoreline that is a throwback to the Padang’s history in the 1800s. Nestled in the Civic District, this land-reclamation artwork contrasts its modern-day landscape.
Made by Spatial Anatomy and Akai Chew with OFTRT, Fragment of a Shoreline is even more captivating at night. Sit back and relax as multi-sensorial features in this installation prompt you to reflect on your individual experiences.
Flight
Check out this intriguing artwork, also located at the Padang. Flight by LiteWerkz responds to Bluetooth signals from your mobile phones in a symphony of light and colours. Inspired by the light of birds, the installation engages you to reorientate your perception of space.
MOVE FOR?WARD (UNSEEN: INSIDE OUT)
Bring your earphones as this interactive art installation at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium Foyer will have audiences navigate through a maze of colourful ropes while reading or listening to the stories of 12 visually-impaired co-creators of the exhibit.
The 30-minute experience aims to engage audiences in questions regarding their perceptions about disability.
Gallery Gigs
The festival comes “back-to-live” with music performances and comedy series at the Gallery, featuring artists such as KEYANA, Kumar, Sezairi and more. Exclusive performances filmed within the Gallery will also be available online for you to access wherever you are.
