For New York-born design studio Lim + Lu, transforming this former five-room apartment was an exercise in reconfiguring the living spaces to make them more inclusive while still providing ample private areas when necessary.
Black Framed Sliding Doors
While it may seem like an impossible task, the feat was achieved with the use of glass and metal sliding doors.
This useful ‘slide-of-hand’ trick helps to open up the living room and the dining area when friends are over, or partition them off totally with the help of the black-framed doors.

The same flooring extends from the living room to the master bedroom, but tiles are used to segment the dining area off completely.

Teal Curtains
The cheerful teal shade on the floor tiles are picked up by the curtains, creating a harmonious look.

Frosted Glass Doors
In the bedroom, one can see more of the sliding doors at work.
The frosted glass panels help to make the closed-off spaces feel less intimidating with light still capable of shining through from room to room.

Once again, the teal colour is used on the wall.
This time though, it’s paired with gold metallic trims, giving the space a contemporary and cosy atmosphere.

Eye for Detail
By doing away with excesses in terms of flourishes or cornices, the design is capable of drawing the eye the to details, such as the veins of the marble top and the design of the lights.
