Home to a young couple, this 1,000 sq ft (92 sqm) four-room HDB flat in Sengkang Central was designed by spatial planning and design practice Open Studio.
Modern Peranakan
‘Modern Peranakan’ was the theme, reflecting the homeowners’ heritage through decorative elements, whilst rendered in a modern earthy palette.
Foyer
The entry foyer instantly sets the scene with its peach-coloured walls, patterned tiles and intricate metal screen.
Peranakan Door
With a Peranakan-inspired saloon swing door, the kitchen is cleverly demarcated from the dining area yet not entirely closed off.
Neutral Living Space
Finishes for the living and dining spaces were kept to neutral grey and white tones.
Pendant Lamps
Warm light radiating from the pendant lamps overhead creates a cosy dining setting.
Ventilation Bricks
In place of conventional solid walls, patterned ventilation bricks not only serve as a pretty privacy screen from the bedroom entrance, they also allow for slivers of light to spill in.
Simple Bedroom
The bedroom maintains a simple and clean aesthetic with the built-in furniture sharing the same wood grain laminate.
Peranakan Tiles
In the bathroom, Peranakan motifs of the tiles around the vanity pair tastefully with the grey, rough-textured tiles of the shower area.
