Back in 2018, homeowners, a pair of sisters in their 30s, found themselves attracted to this 720sqf three-room HDB flat in a mature housing estate in Toa Payoh for its proximity to many amenities.
They got creative director Ed Ong of Dwell Interior Design to revive its aged interiors, and instil a sense of roominess and clean lines with minimal furniture.

Living Room
The living area features a wealth of storage space, with a full-height, 17 ft-long display and storage unit along one side of the living room and dry kitchen space.
This houses the AV equipment, footwear, books and other household items.
Modular TV Console
When a coffee table or extra seating is needed, the sisters pull out the modular pieces that fit into the base of the full-height cabinet.
Clever Storage
Within the modular pieces from the full-height cabinet are hidden storage compartments, which the sisters use to keep items like their CDs.
Open Concept Kitchen
To enlarge the living area, Ed demolished the kitchen wall and pushed the wet kitchen space to the back of the flat, separating it from the living room and dry kitchen area with glass doors.
A pretty, flower-patterned sink for washing small items brightens up the wet kitchen. It was bought at Sim Siang Choon hardware store.
Walk-In Wardrobe
The walk-in wardrobe has two entryways so both sisters can use it at the same time. These also facilitate ventilation.
Platform Beds
A sleek platform for mattresses marks the sleeping space in the bedroom and augments the home’s minimalist slant.
Sleeping close to the ground suited the ladies perfectly, as they did not want to use bed frames and wanted to make it easy for their pet poodle to cuddle up to them at night.
