When faced with a small apartment, it’s common for designers and homeowners to refrain from using dark colours.
Carmen of Wolf Woof, and her clients, a couple in their 40s, challenged this notion by embracing dark hues throughout this apartment — a two-bedroom condominium in Joo Chiat.
2-Bedroom Condo in Joo Chiat
This being a duplex apartment, it boasts a high ceiling.
“The owners wanted an architectural feature that takes advantage of the ceiling height and creates a bold statement,” she explains. “The idea was to create a chic black-and-white Manhattan loft with raw yet clean lines, and featuring a sophistication that fully expresses the owners’ bold and fashion-forward personalities.”
Industrial Loft
Starting off with black, white and grey, Carmen played with textures such as metal, leather and wood.
Brick walls convey the industrial loft look.
To make a bold design statement, she built a frame that accentuates the ceiling height in the living room. The structure leads to a cosy corner that sits on a platform.
Staircase
Movie poster-like light boxes showcasing black and white photographs of the couple decorate the stairwell.
Here, Carmen demonstrates that even a cool-looking bike can be part of the interior decor.
When not in use, the bike can be hauled up with a manual pulley system and showcased.
Master Bathroom
To keep things consistent, she also decked out the master bedroom in a sensuous dark palette.
Diamond-shaped black wall tiles bring a dose of drama to the master bathroom. Glass walls enclosing the bathroom allow a sense of space in the master suite.
